ACT Launch Dinner at Lord's
ACT's official launch party took place on 17 March 2018 in the Long Room at Lord's Cricket Ground, in the company of David Gower.
17 March saw the the grand launch of ACT, as a well-heeled crowd of 135 braved unseasonably snowy conditions to descend on Lord’s Cricket Ground and empty their wallets for a good cause.
Our special guest on the night was the former England batsman and captain, David Gower, who delighted the audience with a collection of tales from his career at the sharp end of international cricket. We heard reminiscences on the great West Indies side of the 80s, on Ashes victories and, of course, on Tiger Moths, all delivered with the familiar poise of his playing days, which has since been honed over years spent as the chief cricket presenter at Sky Sports. There was even a heartwarming moment of communion with an admiring ACT trustee.
After dinner, an auction including holidays, tickets and signed memorabilia raised over £10,000 for the charity. Huge thanks must go to Henry Bailey from Bonhams for running the show.
For us, the evening passed in a blur, the culmination of months of hard work. After a long wait, and unimaginable rounds of admin, ACT is now active.
All of which leaves us with only one thing left to say. Thank you. Thank you for coming, thank you to all who made this possible, and in particular thank you to everyone who has donated. The launch raised over £40,000 for the charity and we are completely delighted.
And of course this is only the beginning. More events will be coming soon and we want to see all of you there again. If you enjoyed the evening, please do bear ACT in mind for any upcoming fundraising efforts. It is a great cause, and we want to make sure we continue to support our research projects as fully as we can. Our new Virgin Giving page might just be the perfect place to start.
Until next time.
